phone call from fairbanks

Dad rang a couple of days ago from Fairbanks.

They are a third of their way through their Alaska trip. They have been to Dawson City and drove the Top of the World highway and now they are on their way to Homer.

Have a look at a route of their trip on this google map.

Once they finish the driving through Alaska part of the journey I am pretty sure they fly to Phoenix to pick up their 5th wheeler. From there I am hoping they will have regular access to the internet and they can blog themselves.

phone call from whitehorse

We got a quick phone call from the oldies in Whitehorse late last week. They had been on a boat for a couple of days and had just picked up their campervan. They were pretty cold and are having a good time. They have the van now for 28 days.

I am going to try and plot their trip whenever I hear from them on this google map.

first contact

quote from email ... 31 May 07

Well we made it to Vancouver after 23 hrs and were totally stuffed, to-day we have been in slow mode, but have seen lots. It’s a great place and very touristy because of the Alaskan tourist boat industry. It is just on 10 to 10 and it’s still daylite, and the sun is up around 4am.
We leave for Alaska on Friday morn,it’s still wed here now and are off to see a bloke from Adelaide that we know to-morrow morn.
We had some visa problems when we entered the USA and they are still ongoing…they are getting extremely tough on immigration .we will follow this up when we get to Alaska. No big deal we will be here for at least 6 months ,but to be negotiated after that. All is well and we are off to bed ,PS food here is extremely cheap and can have a great meal for way less than 10 bucks.

their adventure has begun

I am helping set up this blog, so that once they are on the road they can easily send us online postcards.

Their journey has just started and they flew out of Brisbane around lunch time on Tuesday 28 May and were heading to alaska.

Hopefully I will be able to have this all organised for them to use shortly and will try and include some type of map to trace their travels.

We are missing them already.
